Maybe people didn't like it as much because so much changed for the characters during Johto

I think people didn't like it because it we were stuck with the same characters and the same plotline, and the episodes almost seem to be repeating themselves. Johto journeys was good, but by mid johto league champs, it started getting boring.
The beginning of masterquest was interesting though.

hmm.. thats hard.
by weak, do you mean less challenging? if by that, then yes. but it neccessarily wasnt "weak" i just think people think that because Ash is more experienced with Pokemon now. In Kanto, he just started, and in Battle Frontier, it's a new style.

I think that is when he started to become a much better trainer than in the previous seasons

Yeah misty got a lot more attention during the Johto saga but I wish brock got more time than he did. Maybe it was because of Misty leaving as a main character

I also liked the last part of the Johto series because some of the Hoenn pokemon were revealed, which back then made it very exciting. Also the battle against Charizard and Blaziken was immense stuff ;D

the battle against Charizard and Blaziken was immense stuff ;D True that. I also loved the battle between Ash and Gary. Ash developed so much as a trainer in Johto.

Yes, the battle against Ash and Gary was immense stuff too! ;D Charizard took out 3 of Gary's pokemon, including Blastoise! Charizard rocks! ;D

I've been watching some Johto stuff and Master Quest is really good from the 8th gym and afterwards. I've love the Larvitar storyline. There are lots of really good eps but there are so many fillers through Johto that its annoying
