OMFG (srry), First I hear about Avian Flu(Bird Flu) and now theres something called Swine Flu. Heres the story guys, up in the north, Toronto, 4 vacationers had just arrived to Canaada from Mexico. All 4 were infected with this diesease and 2 of them are here in the GTA(Greater Toronto Area, where I live). I never even heard about this flu, and now people at all the schools are going crazy. They say its rare for Canadians to have it and its severe. It also was said that it originated from Mexico. The actions they are taking for this is severe: 1.They are planning to shut down the schools to prevent this from spreading. 2.They are advising people to stop eating bacon, ham or pork.I can`t stand living without bacon by the way. 3.People are needed to wear the white masks for preventing the disease I really don`t know much about this disease, I got a few questions too: 1.Is this disease worser than bird flu? 2.What does it do when you`re infected by it? 3.What other types of flu are there? 4.Who is David Gest? ??!!!!!! 5.Do you like pie? !!!!!

Well I'm planning on working in the health field, so I know more about this then I probably should.
1. This disease is much worse than bird flu. Bird flu only typically transmits from bird to human and nothing more. Swine flu spreads between humans as well making it as contagious as a cold.
2. When you're infected it does various things. Other than Mexico most countries have seen mild cases with just normal flu symptoms like fever, chills, coughing, headace, etc. However more severe cases (most being in Mexico) cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even death.
3. There are many strands of flu, but the main ones being focused on are your current human flu, bird flu, and swine flu. This new strand of swine flu is actually a combination of the three.
4. No idea
5. LOVE IT
Something many people ask me is how serious this is and how scared they should be. Well WHO raised it's alert level to 5 (Pandemic seemingly imminent) with the highest being 6 (Pandemic has began). Now the government is going to tell you there is nothing to worry about, so if you want to feel better about this, then listen to them. Honestly no one has any control over how this strand mutates over the next few months. It could stay mild and dissapear or it could mutate and become resistant to all of our vaccines and become constantly deadly. What can you do? Nothing. You'll be told to wear masks and wash your hands often, but all those things do is make the virus spread slightly slower. It takes months to develop a vaccine and if this mutates into something different than we have ever seen than who knows how long..
I'm not telling you that this is the Pandemic that is going to destroy humanity or infect and kill millions, but I am telling you to stay aware of what is going on around you. Hopefully the virus stays the way it is and we can treat it, it's really no longer in our hands.

I don't really think it's something to be extra worried about. IF anything i think the news is the one making too big a deal out of it. Treat it like any other flu. Wash your hands, don't drink after people etc. Just be extra cautious.

IF anything i think the news is the one making too big a deal out of it. Absolutely, roughly 6,000 people have confirmed cases. Roughly 3100 in the USA, out of an estimated population July 2008 of 303,824,640 so, roughly 304,000,000 so 1 person in every 98,000 are infected. For ease, round that to 1 in 100,000. So the chance of infection outside of major areas is low, I don't think I come in contact with even 100,000 different people in a month where I live. So yea I don't think its tat big of a deal, sure its more then some stuff yes. But really now be smart about it and you'll likely be fine(actually you'll likely be fine without being smart) And in Canada where I am from cases are even fewer, so I have less chance anyhow. ...I saw there had been awhile since last post figured I'd say something...try and keep activity up lol. ps. any chance I could get my old post count back...j/k

LOL two things 1.Which part of Canada do you live in? 2.I really don`t think so, i tried to ask for my count back and i couldn`t get it.
Even though there are still only a few number of cases, its starting to grow, and its becoming big. With the news putting updates non-stop, who knows, by the end of the month, people would probably be worried.

The Secret part of Canada A lot of times its just mass hysteria in a sense(I don't know how to define that in a proper medical way) But people see it on the news, or hear it from someone, and get scared. Its like the general irrational fear of hitchhikers and hitchhiking. Hear enough bad and it doesn't matter about the good.
