Um, not sure. I remember Princess Versus Princess was episode 52 wasn't it? That's when Jesse encounters a Lickitung, yes. But I can't remember it being stolen in 'So Near, Yet So Farfetched'. I vaguely remember that in that episode it's Misty's pokemon that were stolen. But Psyduck escapes and gets back to Misty, etc.

I think its something to do with the mess up of episodes because of the Porygon one. There's also an episode where Ash stays in the snow for a night and he has a Charmander when in the previous episode he has a Charizard.

It taken me about 1/2 an our to make, but that's probably because I'm quite slow at PaintShop Oh, I've been wondering about the episode for some time now. I thought it was funny when Charizard was a Charmander

I actualy decided to unlock the topic for now...
This topic was debated looooooong ago, when the forum was young, and thus was deleted from the trash, but I did a lot of research into this. There were definatly 3 pokeballs there when there should have been to and we came up with 3 conclusions.
1. There was either an empty PokeBall there or the animators in Japan messed up.
2. Take a look at these air dates:
Pokemon - 45 - A Chansey Operation - March 6th, 1999 Pokemon - 46 - Holy Matrimony! - March 13th, 1999 Pokemon - 47 - So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd - March 20th, 1999 Pokemon - 48 - Who Gets to Keep Togepi? - March 27th, 1999 Pokemon - 49 - Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden - April 3rd, 1999 Pokemon - 50 - Princess Versus Princess - September 4th, 1999 Pokemon - 51 - The Purr-fect Hero - September 11th, 1999 Pokemon - 52 - The Case of the K-9 Caper! - April 10th, 1999 Pokemon - 53 - Pokémon Paparazzi - April 17th, 1999
Princess Versus Princess and the Purr-fect Hero were delayed in production because 4Kids did not want to show the japanize customs of "Girls Day" and "Kids Day" to the American Children so they were cut from the line up, but were re-aired as season openers the in september. My thoughts are that they had no intention of dubbing those episodes when Lickatung was caught, so they used that extra pokeball as the "First apperance of Lickatung"
3. It is possibly James' Weepinbell. Weepinbell has no background except for the fact that it evolved in Pokemon - 55 - The Breeding Center Secret.
I hope this helps

I think it's the second option. In the dub, they generally try to eliminate all evidence of japanese culture, and they only showed the "Kids' Day" and "Girls' Day" episodes by dismissing these holidays as fantasy pokemon holidays, instead of real japanese holidays.
