A good amount of people ask about EV's and this should answer your questions.
Effot Values (EV's) are one of the most important mechanics to know about when it comes to Pokemon battles. These are "points" you earn for battling certain Pokemon.
For every four points you get one point extra towards a stat. So say your PorygonZ battles a Pidgey and defeats it. A Pidgey gives one EV point towards speed. This means that if you battle four Pidgeys you will gain one speed point overall.
But what about the other stats? Well every Pokemon gives out EV points ranging from 1-3 per pokemon. Some even give EV points for two different stats. So then there is the question of which Pokemon gives what. Here are all the lists-

Speed: serebii.net/pokedex-rs/speed.shtml
Special Attack: serebii.net/pokedex-rs/s-attack.shtml
Special Defense: serebii.net/pokedex-rs/s-defense.shtml
Thankyou Serebii for these lists.
But then there are limits to everything.. You can have 510 TOTAL EV points possible and 255 PER STAT. So if you battle 999,999 Pidgeys (Which would be very sad on your part) you still only get 255 EV points.
But getting 255 EV points actually wates three points. Why? Well like I said before four EV points equals one stat point gained, so your total number needs to be divisible by four..255 is not. So you actually want to get 252 EV points if you are going to max out a certain stat. This leaves you 258 EV points left opposed to only 255. So to sum it all up it gives you 1 more point to gain in any stat, this is because you now have 256 EV points to use which is divisible by four.
But even so battling 252 Pidgeys does not sound very fun. Thankfully there are ways around it.
Protein, Zinc, Iron, Calcium, Carbos, and Hp-up all give 10 EV points to a certain stat each. So if you give ten Hp-ups to a pokemon you already have 100 HP EV points done.
Also the item Macho Brace doubles your EV points gained. So that Pidgey gives you two points instead of one.
Even better the rare Pokerus doubles as well. So if your PoygonZ is holding Macho Brace and has Pokerus when it battles a Pidgey it gains four EV points for each one. This makes those 252 Pidgeys go to only 63.
Believe it or not this is a watered down explanation. If you have any more questions just PM my account.
