Alright, I know what this is. Another, "how can we make our forum active again." topic. But, well, I think we need to have the conversation AGAIN cuz it looks to me that the ship is sinking again.
I think the question we need to ask ourselves is this. If we just started this out as a new forum, how would we make it active? Let's pretend we're starting all over again (cept without the episodes,) I mean, how was it done then? We have everything we had then. The episodes, the news, the boards. We even have a new rp section to add to all that. How did this place get active back then? If we can answer this, our problem might be over.

Our activity came from the episodes being new. The fact that we were part of such a great community was exciting. All the episodes were updated a few times a week and it was almost like visiting serebii for updates. Now new and exciting is great, but the thing is we are no longer new or exciting. So obviously we can not the change the fact that the site itself is not new, but we can make it exciting. But our target is now for a new addition to the family we have here. Constantly telling old people to be active is completly useless. People get older, different generations of people come and go. But even if the originals of the site have become slim and unactive that's just how life is. Getting the attention of comletely new people is the goal here. How do we do this? Greatlord has been the best to demonstrate how lately. Make the site appealing to the eye, put in new things others do not have, and make the site our own instead of some generic crap with a bunch of text. RP seems to be the thing going for us now, so building on that is definetly our best bet. If we attract people with this, even small amounts, little bits of talent will start to come here. Until eventually we have a secure site with plenty to do and many people running it. Now look at the people actively "running" this place. Greatlord, Benny, and myself. Greatlord has some talent in the visual aspects of forums and definetly seems to know what he is doing when it comes to computers. I'm sure we will all greatly benefit from his help now and in the long run. Benny is the works behind the RP section and keeping us motivated when times get tough. Maybe not incredibly talented and knowledgable with the set up of forums, but he has long term commitment and the desire to go on. And that is all you need as a leader. I have absolutely no idea how anything in a forum is created or banners, graphics, you name it and I apologize for this. I am not a computer person and not a forum person either. When it comes to the internet I am a PMC person and nothing more. So why am I up here? Simply because of time and commitment. I have no more knowledge or skills at anything than you're average guest looking for some episodes and then leaving wothout saying a word. What I'm trying to say is there is plenty of room for improvement and ANYONE, yes ANYONE can make a huge difference here. One simple idea from some random person could change the fuctioning of this site completly. We all have busy lives and not one or two or even three of us are going to make this work. So everyone needs to pitch in a little and we could change this neverending topic of Doing something on this site as a sense of "work" to a sense of "fun." Five more people in the RP section, ten guys in a tournament, three more people uploading, five more people sticking around and just chatting. Right there is all it takes for a healthy forum. That is 23 people of the 500+ that have visited this forum. How hard is that? Thanks,
Flygon99
EDIT: It would be great to get everyones feedback on this. Not something like "Ya I think so too" or "Ya I guess.." But full thought out replies. Just a little bit of opinion backed up with some effort can go a long way.

It's the lack of affiliation with major sites and boards that aren't drawing in members. I'm actually thinking of asking Bulbapedia, Serebii, and Pokemon Rebirth.com, to actually affiliate with us entirely. Google.com could only do so much though none of us has actually gone to other boards and advertise. I've started a topic on ProBoards asking for new members to join. People have done that for over a year each day and they still get members to join. It's not as ineffective as some of you might think. So I say this, go to other forums such as Bulbapedia, Serebii, and Pokemon Rebirth, copy my banner, and ask them to advertise with us. I'll even make a affiliation table at the bottom of the board.

Yeah, affiliations would be good, but I thought that you'd have to be really popular to affiliate with serebii. There are several sites that I thought we could affiliate with, but they all require their affiliation on our site, and since we don't have an affiliation table...
Anyways, flygon pretty much took the words out of my mouth with the whole new member thing. My problem is, how do we get those people here in the first place? thegreatlord pretty much answered that for me.
So we're going to make a plan outline. Everytime an idea added, or expanded on we'll add to it. Right now it sits as this:
1. The Revamp -Continue revamping the board -Any new ideas to add for events/tournaments, etc. 2.People -more people in rp -people to sign up for tournaments -possibly some more uploaders -frequent chatters. 3.Affiliation -finding sites to affiliate with -possibly an affiliation table of our own
So there it is for now. Anything that needs to be changed or added, you should let us know, or if your an admin, i guess you can change it yourself. lol
EDIT: One last thing, not to point out the obvious, but the staff that is left needs to stay fairly active. Nothing major, just if you can, get on once or twice a day, and say something if it needs to be said. Please, don't just sit back and expect others to take care of it. And if you are going to be inactive, please, don't just leave and let us know. This goes for everyone but especially to (former) staff.

A suggestion is a chat box. Most people only come on to check for new posts then leave, amirite? Don't deny it, you know who you are. Well, why not a chat box? People would have something to do if they have nothing to read or post in, plus it would boost activity. And theres no possibility of the fourms becoming less active because of it because, well, how can you get more inactive then this? Huh? ANYWAY...... thats my .005 cents. I'll try to think up more ideas, Oh, AND in order to help boost activity, if PMC gets an affiliation(Or if the banner is shrunk to affiliation size) I'll add it to all my RP sites so mabye some of the members will go, "Hey look at that, a new affiliate added on <insert site here>, lets go check it out!" Oh, and since PMC has no affiliation box, no buttons from those sites will be nessecary, unless you want to. Anyway, I gtg but yea, my .005 sense. I hope my post has given thought to anybody about ideas.

the staff has been talking about a chatbox for awhile now. We just never really got around to doing it. Thats another good idea. Anyone disagree?

A Chat Box will be on my, "To Do" list, though I'm somewhat weary against it. I've been to other pages and board that had it and whenever viewing the page itself, there was always a constant, "clicking" (You know, similar to those annoying AIM instant message received and sent sounds" sound within the chat box feature. It was annoying to listen to and I didn't find a feature that allowed you to disable that sound entirely as a member or staff. Well, here's another part of my artistic skills. A mere update of the WIP affiliate banner. Soon, I'll add a table as well.

I like the button.
And you can get a cbox at cbox.ws It has no instant refresh(You have to refresh it yourself with the refresh button) but no clicking on it.

a chat box would be a nice contribution toward the board, we will all stay in contact 24/7

Wouldnt having to refresh the chatbox be the same as chatting normally on the board though? =/

There is a CBOX where you can just refresh the CBOX.
